Has this ever happened to you?

There you are, just minding my own business, creating new role center, and you add in a new web part…



And then you click refresh and you get a little error that pops up and you think that your role center is completely corrupted…



Well, it’s happened to me enough that I thought that I needed to share a note on how to fix it.

The problem is that the web part – usually a User Control webpart is corrupted and needs to be removed from the page before it will start working again. This is especially frustrating because you can’t get back to the page at all to delete the web part. But all is not lost.

Just put the following parameter at the end of the corrupted page’s URL:

?contents=1


That will take you to the Web Part Maintenance form.



From there just select the web part that is causing all of the ruckus and delete it.



That will clean up the form for you and you can now display your role center again.



Now you can continue on just like it never happened. Just remember to avoid that particular web part combination in the future.
